The Health and Disability Commission has released a highly critical report on the treatment of cancer patients in the Southern district.
The investigation found some cancer patients in Otago and Southland were told they had to wait longer to see a cancer specialist than they had time to live.
The commission launched the investigation after complaints from patient advocates.
The original complaint sparked today's report comes from a woman only identified as "Ms A".
Ms A is also happy to be known by her full name of Melissa Vining, whose husband Blair Vining died from bowel cancer while under Southern care.
