Work on an underslip on the main road into Kawhia is disrupting traffic into the coastal Waikato region so much that one business has shut down.
Residents are worried they will struggle because for five weeks State Highway 31 will need to be closed while work is being done to repair it. The plan is during work hours the road will only be open between 12.30pm and 1.30pm. It will be open all day over weekends but as a single lane road.
There is an alternative route but it's unsealed and suitable for light vehicles only.
