Interest for New Zealand to host the Commonwealth Games

From Morning Report, 7:23 am on 20 April 2023

Aotearoa is considering hosting the 2034 Commonwealth Games.

If successful it would be the fourth time we have held the games.

Christchurch has held it once and Auckland twice, in 1959 when it was called the British Empire games in 1990.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee has told the Commonwealth Games Federation it is interested, after a new hosting model was introduced, allowing for more flexible games.
