Former Labour Party MP and government minister Meka Whaitiri says her whakapapa was calling her home, sparking her switch to Te Pāti Māori.
The 58-year-old MP for Ikaroa-Rawhiti says the decision wasn't made lightly.
Ms Whaitiri says she hopes to continue to serve her community, and she's proud to join an unapologetic Māori political movement.
Te Pāti Māori co-leader, Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, spoke with Corin Dann.
