A boutique cheesemaker from tiny Pohangina in rural Manawatu walked away with the supreme prize at the New Zealand Champions of Cheese awards in Hamilton last night.
The husband and wife team of Adrian and Jill Walcroft defeated all the country's big brands with their Cartwheel Creamery artisan cheeses - which the judges labelled as "lovely lingering flavours".
It comes 12 years after Adrian Walcroft won the best amateur prize.
He spoke with Ingrid Hipkiss.
