Former Labour Party minister Meka Whaitiri has made her first significant interview since the day she resigned from the Labour Party and joined the Māori Party.
She told TVNZ this morning she wasn't crossing the floor at parliament for political reasons but for what she describes as a long-held calling.
Meka Whaitiri said she "didn't feel she was heard" in Labour and believes that will be different at Te Pāti Māori.
RNZ political deputy editor Craig McCulloch spoke to Corin Dann.
