Whanganui residents are being warned of the risk of more slips because the land remains saturated after flooding.
About 20 people were evacuated from Putiki, a low-lying area next to Whanganui River, around 9.30pm on Saturday.
Whanganui mayor Andrew Tripe spoke to Guyon Espiner this morning.
