More donors needed for blood service
The New Zealand Blood Service says it needs more donors if it is to remain self-reliant.
Currently the service has 117,000 donors who help save the lives of 30,000 people every year.
But Communications Manager, Asuka Burge says they have now reached a tipping point, where if they can't encourage more people to join the donor registry, New Zealand may no longer continue to be self-reliant for blood and plasma.
She spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
