ETS review offers 'encouraging' future signpost

The government has begun a new review of the emissions trading scheme and the use of forestry to help offset carbon emissions.

It thinks the ETS may not be encouraging emissions reductions because it's cheaper for many companies just to buy emission units rather than invest in cutting pollution.

Of the four options the government is putting forward, an associate professor at the University of Canterbury's School of Forestry thinks one in particular is "encouraging" as a blueprint.
