Truckies headed for Gisborne with essential supplies face a long detour after slips closed State Highway 2 to the north, from Mātāwai to Whatatutu Road at Te Karaka.
The road is expected to remain closed until at least Friday, with traffic directed via the Napier to Taupō Road.
At least half a dozen trucks travel into Gisborne with essential supplies every day.
