The Rural Health Network says a proposal for a new medical school could be a lifeline for some practices.

The National Party announced yesterday that if elected, it would establish a medical school at Waikato University which would train 120 doctors a year.

The current medical schools at Otago and Auckland universities would also get 50 more places each.

Grant Davidson, the chief executive of Hauora Taiwhenua, the Rural Health Network, spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
