Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has ruled out introducing a wealth tax or a capital gains tax while he is leader - echoing the promise Jacinda Ardern made in 2019.
Budget documents released yesterday also reveal the government investigated a "tax switch" - which would have implemented a tax-free threshold for income up to ten-thousand dollars, with a 1.5 percent tax on net wealth above $5m to fund it.
But the idea wasn't taken up.
