An emergency flood alert was issued for residents near Tuahiwi in the Waimakariri district last night.
The alert warned further flooding was possible around high tide at 8pm last night, and encouraged people to leave.
Heavy rain caused widespread surface flooding throughout Canterbury, closing roads, fords, and bridges.
