Investigative journalist Jon Stephenson says the government is being disingenuous in saying the main takeaway from the Operation Burnham inquiry was about a "poor information flow".
He says it does a disservice to people who spoke out to the inquiry, detailing the way New Zealand's Defence Force acted in Afghanistan.
Stephenson is also concerned the new independent watchdog might lack teeth if the wrong person is appointed.
Stephenson spoke to Corin Dann.
