An area of sea ice nearly as large as Argentina has failed to freeze in Antarctica this year, sparking concerns among scientists.
Records that trace the quantities of sea ice on the continent go back 45 years.
But 2023 has been described as "off the charts exceptional", with this year's ice spanning one-point-five-million square kilometres less than the previous record low.
