An alpine rescuer says two people "had a pretty close shave" after being caught in an avalanche in the backcountry of the Remarkables on Saturday.
He estimated the avalanche, which was triggered around lunchtime, ran about 800 meters down the hill.
Russ Tilsley, an alpine rescue coordinator, was at the scene and helped dig out the partially-buried duo.
He spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
