Nearly 5,000 women have had claims for birth injuries accepted by the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) since cover was expanded nearly a year ago.
And while nearly all claims are now being accepted, compared with just 30 percent in the 12 months before the change was made, experts are struggling to explain why case numbers are fewer than expected.
