The Wellington City Council is enlisting the help of AI to reduce the carbon footprint of commuters.
British company, VivaCity Labs is providing the sensors, which will be rigged up on posts and used to monitor all types of transport, including cars, trucks, bicycles, scooters, buses and pedestrians.
The council says the data will be used to design roading that accommodates more types of transport and ensures all users can share roads safely.
Wellington City Council street transformations manager Paul Barker spoke to Corin Dann.
