Z Energy is being taken to court over claims it has breached the Fair Trading Act by misleading New Zealanders.
According to the Statement of Claim filed by Consumer NZ inc, Lawyers for Climate Action NZ, and the Environmental Law Initiative - Z has increased its total greenhouse gas emissions since 2019, despite running ads that say: "we're in the business of getting out of the petrol business".
Z Energy declined to come on the programme, instead providing a statement which says: "Z Energy acknowledges the statement of claim served to us."
It says it takes "the claim made against Z extremely seriously and is now working to consider its response."
Consumer NZ chief executive Jon Duffy spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
