For the first time in 150 years, two kiwi chicks were hatched in Wellington wilderness.
The milestone follows years of conservation work by the Capital Kiwi Project to control pests in the region.
Fifty kiwi were released into the region in May, following an initial release of eleven North Island Brown kiwi last year.
The chicks bring the known kiwi population to 65.
