The new Emergency Management and Recovery Minister, Mark Mitchell, is visiting Gisborne on Friday to see cyclone and flood ravaged communities for himself.
Mayors in Tairāwhiti and Hawke's Bay have said they wanted to see Mitchell in person ground before Christmas.
