The weekend's southerly blast felt like Aotearoa could be in line for a snowy Christmas. Temperatures dropped to 10 degrees celsius in the capital yesterday, with downpours and blustery gales. Heavy rain fell across the rest of Te Ika-a-Māui, the North Island. El Niño is responsible for more volatile weather, with strong winds and dry spells forecast for the rest of summer.
