After a drawn out debate around the district plan, Wellington City councillors have voted to increase housing density, reduce heritage protection and increase the amount of housing near rail lines.
This comes as a win for those seeking more affordable housing, but goes against recommendations of the Independent Hearings Panel, which stated Wellington already has sufficient capacity for development.
