Polyfest gets underway in Auckland
Polyfest, the world's largest Maori and Pacific Island secondary school cultural festival, opened in Auckland just over an hour ago with a flag-raising ceremony and a mass haka powhiri. More than 8000 students will be competing over the next four days on the various Polyfest stages - Cook Islands, Maori, Niue, Samoan, Tongan, and the Diversity stage which features cultures such as Chinese, Fijian, Indian and Korean. And as well as performances there is a mix of traditional food, arts and crafts stalls. ASB Polyfest director Seiuli Terri Leo-Mauu spoke to Ingrid Hipkiss.
