Wairoa Council to give briefing after heavy weather hits

The Wairoa District Council will give a briefing this morning as the town wrestles with the impact of the latest flooding - just 16 months on from Cyclone Gabrielle. Hundreds of homes have been affected, and over 100 people had to seek shelter at a community hall. Roads in and out of Wairoa have been severly damaged, limiting access to the town. The minister for Emergency Management and Recovery Mark Mitchell spoke to Corin Dann.
