Police vindicated over David Tamihere appeal failure

Police say the Court of Appeal judgment upholding the convictions against David Tamihere for the murder of two Swedish backpackers vindicates the significant resources and time they have devoted to the case over the past thirty-five years. The court said it is satisfied that Tamihere, who still maintains his innocence, murdered Sven Urban Höglin and Heidi Paakkonen. Ingrid Hipkiss spoke with the country's top cop for investigations, Assistant Commissioner Paul Basham, who said the decision will be significant for the original inquiry team.
