Australian drivers are spending billions on toll roads, with one company, Transurban, operating 18 of the country's 22 toll roads. As toll prices are pegged to inflation, costs are increasing, leaving drivers paying more each year, especially in cities like Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane where daily commutes can cost drivers up to 150 dollars a week. Stephen Mayne, an Australian journalist and shareholder of Transurban, is attending the company's general meeting, armed with lots of questions about why the tolls are so high. He spoke with Ingrid Hipkiss.
