Access All Areas: The Sonics
The Sonics (pictured left) were one of the most underground pioneers of American garage rock and the North West Sound. Name-checked by Kurt Cobain, The Fall, The White Stripes, the Black Keys and most of the grunge generation, these guys were recording songs so wild they sent white picket fence-owning Americans running to their fallout shelters back in the '60s. For Access All Areas Trevor Reekie talks to original vocalist Gerry Roslie about their incredible legacy and their journey back to the stage … including a one-off appearance at The Kings Arms on Wednesday 18th April.
Missing Teeth
Forming in 1999, Auckland act Missing Teeth has given 13 years of honest, gritty and speedy punk rock, touring the country under its own steam numerous times, and played support for some of the big punk tourists to pass through. We talk to them on the eve of another "last ever gig".

A child of late '70s Idaho, Eilen Jewell (pictured right) is a prolific recording artist with an Americana repertoire that looks to the past more than the future for its inspiration. Nick Atkinson catches up with the singer-songwriter before her show at the Powerstation in Auckland.

Around the World in 80 Tunes: Peru
In this new series, international adventurers and DJs Nick Dwyer and Barnie Duncan uncover the sounds of Peru.
Peru - the land of the Inca. Famed perhaps for its pan-pipes, there is much more going on here than El Condor Pasa. In Lima during the urban explosion of the '80s the haunting sounds of the Amazon collided with cumbia, a popular music adopted from Colombia. The result - a psychedelic voice of the underclass named chicha.
Around the World in 80 Tunes co-host Barnie Duncan talks to LA-based Peruvian American DJ Lengua about his reworking of classic chicha and cumbia sounds, and the popularity of this music amongst the Latin youth of the United States. And New Zealand Peruvian Jaime Chu is asked about his recollections of growing up Lima during the 1980s, where a climate of terrorist attacks and overcrowded slums filled with Andean immigrants was in some ways mitigated by the psychedelic sounds of chicha.

Brother Number One
The documentary, Brother Number One, follows Rob Hamill, an Olympic and Trans-Atlantic rowing champion, who travels to Cambodia in the wake of the torture and murder of his brother New Zealand yachtie Kerry Hamill by the Khmer Rouge in 1978. It's an artfully told story supported by a beguiling, and at times menacing score composed by Tom Fox and Marshall Smith. Nick Atkinson spoke to the pair, as well as the musical consultant for the film, composer Jack Body.
