2015 APRA Silver Scroll Awards
The APRA Silver Scroll Awards celebrated its 50th anniversary this week, with a ceremony at Auckland’s Vector Arena that saw this coveted peer voted music award handed out to Ruban and Kody Nielson for ‘Multi-Love’, alongside a host of other accolades, including the APRA Maioha Award, the ‘Lost Scroll’, and the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame induction of Bill Sevesi.
The Music 101 and The Wireless teams were amongst it to bring you a bird’s-eye view of the awards.
Tami Neilson- Don't Be Afraid
Last year’s APRA Silver Scroll awardee, Tami Neilson, is about to deliver her new album, Don’t Be Afraid, written after the death of her father and fellow musician, Ron Neilson. The first single from the album, ‘Lonely’, was started by Ron back in the 1970s, and completed with her brother, Jay. In a M101 listening session, Tami explains the songs journey along with other tunes from the album.

Jon Toogood live in session
The voice of Shihad and The Adults, Jon Toogood, is set to take 25 years of back catalogue on the road for his first solo tour, stripping back Shihad and Adults cuts, plus a handpicked selection of covers. Before the acoustic run, he joins us in session for a pocket-sized version of his Planet of Sound show.

Tahuna Breaks European Tour Diary
In late June, Auckland funk and soul outfit Tahuna Breaks flew to the UK to start a whirlwind European tour, a two-week calendar of gigs that included slots at England’s Glastonbury festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Before the band left, they picked up a RNZ sound recorder to commit their adventures to tape.
