1.20 Tami Neilson on joining Willie Nelson’s tribe

Tami Neilson, the Canadian born/ NZ-based country singer, has broken new ground for Kiwi country music - she has been welcomed into Willie Nelson’s tribe.

Last year we heard the beautiful duet she sang with Willie ‘Beyond the Stars’, and that song is now part of a collection of Willie Nelson covers that Tami recorded in Willie’s studio in Texas.

It’s a dream come true, but I feel like we’ve been saying that a lot lately about Tami, who is about to play country music's greatest stage - the Grand Ole Opry and later the iconic Dollywood.

Neilson sings Nelson was released just yesterday.

4pm  The Mixtape: Comedian and children’s author David Walliams

Our guest today picking the music is one of Britain's most controversial comedians and best-loved children's authors, David Walliams.

Walliams came to fame alongside Matt Lucas with the BBC comedy series Little Britain, and Come Fly With Me, and later was a judge on the television talent show competition Britain's Got Talent on ITV.

Fifteen years ago Walliams started writing children’s books, and has gone on to become one of the world's most popular children's authors, having spent more weeks in the children’s charts than any other author - including Roald Dahl.

His brave and sensitive characters in books like The Boy in the Dress and Gangsta Granny have reignited reading for a generation.

David Walliams is coming to New Zealand later this month with two shows: An Audience with David Walliams for grown ups, and The David Walliams Book Show for both the kids and the grandparents.
