Kirin J Callinan has a reputation as a bit of a wild man, thanks to his over-sexed promotional material and slightly sinister stage presence.
In reality he's a soft-spoken, thoughtful guy, happy to open up about the meanings behind his music.
Kirin visited RNZ and performed his coming-of-age ballad, 'Family Home'.
He also took the time to talk us through his dizzying array of guitar pedals.
