When Billy Te Kahika first heard rhythm and blues sound it sparked a flame that would never be put out. He had already been experimenting with wah wah, echo and feedback when he heard the Hendrix classic. Hey Joe. Soon he knew the Hendrix catalogue backwards and was a legend in his own right playing guitar behind his back, with his teeth and making it speak a new language. He joined Human Instinct as a replacement guitarist in 1968 and the resulting collaboration saw three classic underground albums. Billy went on to form his own units Powerhouse and Wharemana.
