The musical pedigree of Albi in the Wolves is obvious.
Violinist Pascal Roggen has played in bands of all genres since before he was old enough to legally be in bars. Double bass player Michael Young straddles the traditional and nu-folk scene, and lead singer Chris Dent (Albi) regards the Auckland Folk Festival as the place he grew up in - his spiritual and musical home.
The debut album One Eye Open combines all the elements that make Albi and the Wolves so easy to enjoy. Combining concise melodies and interweaving instrumentation the many strings of the band engage without ever becoming twee, an easy trap for folk trios to fall into.
Off the back of the debut comes a whopping twenty-date tour of New Zealand including a small private festival in Hawkes Bay, and the band’s first trip to the South Island.
