NZ cinemas have just seen the release of T2 Trainspotting, the sequel to the 1996 classic. Trainspotting was of course a huge success, but its soundtrack proved to be generation-defining as well, in particular launching Underworld's career into the stratosphere with the inclusion of Born Slippy.
The director of both films, Danny Boyle, was largely instrumental in shaping the soundtrack for both films, so when he visited Auckland recently it seemed a good opportunity to learn more about his approach to music selection.
Steve Newall from flicks.co.nz met with Danny to discuss the pressure of following up such an iconic soundtrack, discovering Scottish band Young Fathers, and revisiting Underworld 20 years later.
