Cha Wa is a Grammy-nominated Mardi Gras Indian funk band based out of New Orleans, Louisiana. Front man, J'Wan Boudreaux, carries his cultural origins by dressing in traditional Mardi Gras Indian suits including an intricately designed 20-inch headdress.
The band is the product of a long history that has seen the cultures of Indigenous Americans mixed with the culture of Afro Americans which has profoundly shaped the history of blues, jazz and rock n roll.
For Music 101 Trevor Reekie talks to founding member and drummer Joe Gelini.
