A supergroup of Kiwi musicians are joining forces to celebrate 40 years since the 1979 release of Neil Young's Live Rust album. RNZ Music got a sneak peek at the group's first rehearsal, as well as a special live recording of 'The Needle and the Damage Done', as performed by Liam Finn.
The Live Rust tour takes place in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland in August.
Shihad’s Jon Toogood will join Liam Finn; Samuel Flynn Scott and Chris O'Connor of The Phoenix Foundation; Auckland electronic artist SJD; award-winning singer/songwriters Reb Fountain and Delaney Davidson; and The Bads’ Dianne Swann and Brett Adams.
This impressive line-up of musicians will be playing some of Neil Young’s most beloved songs – ‘Cinnamon Girl’, ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’, and ‘Like A Hurricane’ to name a few.
Live Rust was a huge record in New Zealand, reaching #1 and spending a staggering 50 weeks in the charts.
The show will include an opening set of classics spanning Buffalo Springfield to Crazy Horse, then Live Rust, track by track, in its entirety.
