RNZ Music is proud to present the new video from industrial pop artist VÏKÆ. 'Finelines' is the title track from her upcoming EP, out September 4.
Originally from Ukraine Veronika Bell, aka VÏKÆ, moved to New Zealand to escape the aftermath of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
‘Finelines’ is her third single following the release of ‘Truth’ and ‘Rumours’. It’s the title track from her forthcoming debut EP, which is out September 4.
VÏKÆ is touring New Zealand in September to support the release. Skip to tour details.
The new song addresses toxic friendships and the negative effects of binge drinking culture: “It explores the way in which human interaction has changed because of party culture and how this can have an adverse effect on mental health,” VÏKÆ says.

The song’s video navigates the “darkest moments” in VÏKÆ’s life: “[It’s] a direct visualisation of a bipolar mind and different spectrums of pain.
“With the knowledge that each person suffering with bipolar has an individual experience with this disease, it was important to convey [my] own and personal stories about the illness.”
A fan of classical music from an early age, Veronika studied piano, ballet and drama. She arrived at Otago University as an aspiring opera singer set to study classical performance, but left with a bachelor’s degree in contemporary performance (voice) and a graduate diploma in jazz.
After graduating in 2016, Veronika became a resident vocalist of The Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra and began releasing her own music as well as managing her band VTMNK.
Eventually she moved back to Auckland to start working on her solo career. She also teaches privately in her home studio and is a registered vocal teacher for high schools.
VÏKÆ’s music bridges pop and industrial electronic. Her writing is inspired by personal experiences with mental and physical health, using raw and honest lyrics to connect with listeners “on a deeper level”.

Directing and editing her own music videos, as well as doing all the costuming, VÏKÆ takes a DIY approach to creativity. It gives her autonomy and allows her to ensure the authenticity of her output.
The release of the EP on September 4 will be supported by a nationwide tour, which will see VÏKÆ teaming-up with fellow Kiwi pop artist PRINS.
