RNZ Music is delighted to share the new single and video 'Calculated Risk' from New Zealand Music Award nominee Estère. It's the lead single from her upcoming album Archetypes.
Estère is a Wellington based artist who writes songs with an anthropologist's eye. She describes her music as “electric blue witch-hop” and takes inspiration from a range of genres including electronica, folk and R&B.
Estère has been twice nominated for New Zealand Music Awards, including Best Producer (2018) and Critics Choice Award (2015).
‘Calculated Risk’ explores the vulnerability of love and the journey to emotional liberation. Estère teamed up with Massive Attack producer Stew Jackson for the first time to create her upcoming album Archetypes. Due out later this year, it promises body-moving R&B grooves, dense production and engrossing narratives.
Estère is known for her unique live shows. She plays guitar, keyboards, drums and has performed around the globe including opening for Grace Jones and Erykah Badu.
