The operation of multi-thousand capacity stadiums, spectator travel and merchandise, not to mention the fossil fuel sponsorship that props up professional tournaments, means that football is currently part of the climate problem. But its audience of billions could be part of the solution.

The band also includes an Australian reed player, an Armenian duduk maestro and the superb Finnish singer Sanna Kurki-Suonio and her daughter also on vocals, Sans have produced an album called Kulku, which is a beautiful album of not only startling originality but is equally spacious, evoking Finland's landscape and natural beauty.
