Nights for Wednesday 24 November 2021
7:12 Mana of The Pacific
We speak to Apisalome Movono & Regina Scheyvens about a book they've complied called Mana of the PacificWisdom from across Oceania. The two Massey University Academics who have been researching the impact of COVID-19 on Pacific communities.
What they found was that communities are really pulling on their culture and traditions. That led to a really beautiful book that celebrates these values through proverbs and wisdom.
Any profits from the book will go towards supporting community-based resilience programmes in the Pacific.

Would my cat survive in the wild?
Cats started hanging out with humans thousands of years ago, and nowadays these fluffy, lovable pets are found in many of our homes. But there's no doubt lots of them still have keen hunting instincts - witness all the birds and small mammals they kill each year. CrowdScience listener Rachel started wondering whether her cat Eva could fend for herself while watching her uncoordinated swipes at a toy on a string, and seeing her fall off the sofa.

The Tomo - named for the naturally-occurring holes in volcanic land - is set at a farm near Gisborne, where Phil has been sent by his family to work for a couple of weeks during Christmas while his mum takes his dad to Wellington for cancer treatment.
