Pauline Blomfield is the chief executive of K9 Medical Detection NZ, a Dunedin-based charitable trust using specially trained dogs to assist in the detection of cancer and other diseases.

Their latest four-legged recruit will be the first dog in the country to sniff out ovarian cancer.

As the year wraps up, all round the country, graduates and their families have been enjoying the celebrations  Last week about 2000 University of Canterbury students graduated. One made a big splash with a design for an umbrella.

Yazmin Shipley went to great lengths to redesign the umbrella as part of her Bachelor of Engineering with Honours Degree.
