It was a big day for the entomologically inclined out there.
Not only is Feburary 14 the international day of love, it is also the day the winner of New Zealand's Bug of the Year is announced.
This year nearly 17,000 bug lovers voted for their favourite insect, with ballots being cast for everything from the Mt Arthur Giant Wētā to the Ngaro wīwī Black Cockroach-hunter Wasp.
Nights' resident bug enthusiast and science communicator Morgane Merien joins Emile Donovan to discuss the winner: the kahukura red admiral butterfly.
