The West Coast of the South Island is bracing for another day of heavy rain tomorrow, after a downpour today left bodies of water like the Waiho River swollen to the banks.
There have been power outages near Haast and some residents in Franz Josef were evacuated Tuesday night as a precaution.
The region is currently under an Orange Rain Warning, but residents are being warned to stay vigilant, and police have warned motorists to limit travel to essentials only.
