Journalist and author Sebastian Junger spent a year embedded with US troops in the so-called "Valley of Death" in eastern Afghanistan. In his new book War, he describes the camaraderie of a platoon in the 2nd battalion, the trauma of killing and the love between platoon-mates who would rather die than let each other down. Videotape shot during the deployment was used to make the documentary film, Restrepo, co-directed by Junger. The film won the Sundance Grand Jury prize for Documentary. He is also the bestselling author of The Perfect Storm and A Death in Belmont and a contributing editor to Vanity Fair magazine.
