Jonathan Besser has lived in New Zealand since the early '70s and has led many different music ensembles and has composed for orchestra, chamber groups, theatre, dance and film. One of his latest forays is into Klezmer music - a style of folk music born out of the yiddish jewish culture of Eastern Europe - it's often called Jewish Jazz. He performed at the recent New Zealand International Arts Festival as part of New Klezland - a collaboration with fellow composers Ross Harris and Chris Prosser.
