Could desert plants help power the world?

A team of researchers at Oxford University is studying the energy potential of desert plants. They believe cacti and succulents could be a biofuel source because they grow in areas where most other plants can't, which means they don't take up valuable agriculture land - unlike the other biofuel crops such as maize or sugarcane.
