South African clinical psychiatrist Professor Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela has dedicated her life to reconciliation and reparation.
She talks to Lynn Freeman about to the power that forgiveness can bestow on victims of crime, and their relatives, even in the face of unspeakable horrors or generations of abuse.
She was in New Zealand to deliver a Sir Graham John lecture, supported by the New Zealand Law Foundation and was invited to reflect on the challenges of responding to the racial and cultural trauma of the Christchurch attacks, and also the ongoing cultural legacy of colonialism.
