The Government is proposing bringing in agriculture emission levies from 2025. It has announced its response to submissions from the Climate Change Commission and the farming partnership He Waka Eke Noa. It supports farm-level pricing but says that will be challenging to achieve by 2025. The rate of the levy will be set by the Government. It's an alternative to including farmers in the Emissions Trading Scheme and it will make New Zealand is the first country in the world to seek to put a price on agricultural emissions.
