The bad weather and relentless rain has affected many parts of the upper North Island. In the Coromandel, rain and slips have closed State Highway 25 in several places while State Highway 25A, connecting the east and west coasts of the peninsula, is also closed. In Northland flooding has closed State Highway One between Brynderwyn and Waipu along with the Mangamuka Gorge. The Bay of Plenty also received significant rainfall, where roads have closed, a train was derailed, and landslide caused a house to collapse. Kathryn speaks with Thames-Coromandel Mayor Len Salt, Northland Civil Defence's Zac Wood and Alisha Evans, a Local Democracy Reporter in Tauranga with Sun Live.
