Aucklanders feeling the heat in medium density homes

While many South Auckland homeowners will be pleased to see the capital value (CV) of their houses skyrocket, they might not be as pleased to see how much it could add to their rates bills.

An Auckland Council study has found some medium density housing is too hot in warm weather.

This includes terraced houses, duplexes and apartments, which are two-thirds of new homes consented in the city last year.

Such dwellings are becoming widespread to boost housing supply in Tāmaki Makaurau.

But affordability is one thing, comfort and ease of living another. 

The council has surveyed medium-density residents to find out about their living conditions.
